I think people have forgotten that Supernatural has always been about these two brothers right here:

Sam and Dean Winchester, and their relationship with each other. And how when he was just four Dean carried his little brother out of their house as their mother burned on the ceiling of the nursery, and how when their dad went missing Dean asked for Sam’s help because he simply couldn’t handle it alone, and how Sam had demon blood running through his veins but Dean refused to let his brother turn into a monster, yet would’ve rather died than kill him. Supernatural is about how far these two are willing to go for one another, making deals with angels and selling souls to devils and fighting a destiny that would tear them apart forever if it had the chance, just so they can keep each other alive. Or just keep each other period. Because the angels and demons don’t care that these brothers are everything to each other- are each other’s soulmates- they don’t care that Dean grew up too fast raising Sam and trying to keep him a kid just a little bit longer, or that the boys never knew a home other than the Impala with the army man stuck in the ashtray and the legos in the vents and the classic rock blasting from the radio. They don’t care that on Dean’s last night on earth before the hellhounds came running, he sang along to the radio with his little brother just to give him one last good memory of him, or that when Sam took control over his mind after saying yes to Lucifer and jumped into the cage- it wasn’t really to save the world, but to save his brother.
I think people have forgotten that this show isn’t about the monsters or the apocalypse or the leviathan or even about Bobby and Cas, no matter how much the boys might have loved them. It’s about how Sam and Dean deal with their lives when holding onto each other is the only thing they have, and how they deal with everything else- the apocalypse, the monsters, and the deaths of everyone they love.
People don’t seem to realize that Dean isn’t the joking lady’s man that he was in season 1 because after all the shit that he’s been through it’s a miracle he’s even able to joke the little bit that he does, and even then that’s because of Sam. Dean always has to be strong for his little brother. No matter what they go through or how old they get that fact will never change.
And no one seems to realize that the boys in this season are barely holding it together, they’ve been through Heaven and Hell, fought against Angels and Demons, prevented the apocalypse, had to cope with the fact of never being able to have a normal life, had to deal with Cas’s betrayal, his death, and then to top it all off the death of the only real father figure they had. Dean is breaking and this time Sam’s the one having to hold the pieces together, while his memories from the Cage and Lucifer torment him within hallucinations of Hell.
Sam and Dean are both doing their best to hold each other together, and just because they don’t seem the same anymore or because Cas and Bobby are gone doesn’t mean anyone should stop watching. Because the brothers aren’t the same. How could they be? And Cas and Bobby? As I said before, just because they’re dead isn’t a reason to quit on Supernatural, because the show was never truly about Team Free Will. It might have been for a little while but since the beginning, since Dean carried Sam out of that nursery that night, it’s always been just about Sam and Dean, and their love for one another.
We all need to remember that.
“This is where they come to prey upon each other for all eternity.”
